How the complex discharge team support young people in transition

Cathryn trained at University of Liverpool and qualified 2years ago with a BSc with Honours in Occupational Therapy. She quickly specialised in Paediatrics and worked in various trusts covering Community, Inpatient, Outpatient and school settings in the North West. She settled within St Helens Council in Merseyside for 15 years, and was the only Paediatric OT for the borough, assisting complex and life limited children and those with behavioural difficulties, to adapt their properties, provide equipment and working with housing to support for families to meet their child’s complex needs within the home.

Cathryn joined the Complex Discharge team as Team Lead at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in February 2019; in an innovative role to bridge the gap between hospital and home; addressing the complex medical and social needs within the discharge process whilst ensuring that this is completed within a timely framework, improving communication and joint working with the community.
